West China School of Basic Medical Sciences & Forensic Medicine originated from the relevant disciplines of West China Union University, established in 1905 as a comprehensive university modeled from Oxford University.Not only had a high academic starting point, but also made major contributions to the campaign of road protection in Sichuan, the anti-Japanese and national salvation movement, War to Resist U.S. Aggression and Aid Korea and other movements.West China School of Basic Medical Sciences & Forensic Medicine was formed in July 2001 by the merger of the School of Basic Medical Sciences of West China Medical University (founded in 1987) and the School of Forensic Medicine (founded in 1999).
West China School of Basic Medical Sciences & Forensic Medicine takes pride in attracting manyexcellent talents,who have made significant contributions to the cause of revolution and construction in our country. Among prominent representatives, Professor Chengzhao LIU, the former president of West China University and Sichuan Medical College, is one of the major founders of amphibians and reptiles in China. He is also a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and served as the first, second and third deputies to the National People’s Congress, and has contributed a great devotion to the development of medical education in China.
West China School of Basic Medical Sciences & Forensic Medicine is the earlies scientific research and talents training bases in China. Basic medical science and forensic medicine are the specialties of the Ministry of Education. Forensic medicine ranks the first in China. West China School of Basic Medical Sciences & Forensic Medicinehas National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center, National Teaching Team andNational Intensive Curriculum. It undertakes the teaching task of basic medical courses for medical students and other subjects related to medicine.In addition, the Schoolhas won dozens of national and provincial awards in teaching achievements.
Currently, there are 201 faculty and staff members in the school. Among them, there are one winner of the National Award for Distinguished Teachers, two winners of the Provincial Award for Distinguished Teachers,one Chief Scientist of 973 Project (professor Canhua HUANG).There are many national outstanding talents in our teaching team, includingchair professor of the Ministry of Education,the winner of the National Science Fund for Outstanding Young Scholars, the winner of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars of China, the National Ten Thousand Talents Plan teaching master and candidates of The new century talents project. Also, we have one Convener of the group of Special Medicine Group of the Disciplinary Review Commission of the State Council,one chairman of the Teaching Director committee of Forensic Medicine in Higher Education of the Ministry of Education,one member of the Basic Medical Teaching Steering Committee, five experts who have the rights of enjoying the national governmental subsidies, nine Academic and Technological leaders of Sichuan Province, renowned Educator of the Sichuan Province, and eleven Excellent Experts with Outstanding Contributions of the Sichuan Province.
In recent years, our school has made a number of innovative achievements in the field of stress medicine, DNA damage repair, neurological diseases, pathogen infection, redox signaling regulation, pharmacokinetics effects of anestheticsand a breakthrough inidentification technologyofbiological evidence in forensic medicine, with publications in internationally prestigious scientific journals such as Nat Genet,Nat Med ,Cell Metab,Cell Host Microbe,PNAS and Ann. Neurol, which has laid a solid foundation for the construction of the world-class university and the best medical discipline.
