The Department of Biochemistry was founded in 1910 when Dr.Cornier was recruited as first chair and has gone by a number of names reflecting a particular stage in the evolution of medicine and life sciences. In the 4th decade of Department the first institute of biochemistry was established by professor Tianhe Lan in China. He also devoted his whole life to the development of our Department.

We have 16 faculty and staff among our ranks, including 6 professors, 3 associate professors, 1 senior technician and 6 lecturers, 3 post-doctoral fellows, ~30 graduated students(10 Doctoral candidates and 20 Master candidates) working in the Lab. There are 5 doctoral supervisors and 8 master supervisors. Meanwhile, 12 teachers have more than 1 year overseas study experience in developed countries. All teachers have the ability of bilingual teaching and most of them can make full English teaching.

The Department of biochemistry and molecular Biology explores the molecular mechanisms that underlie cellular function and contribute to human disease. Our laboratories emphasize interdisciplinary research that spans the biomedical sciences, including signal transduction, cell cycle regulation, homeostasis, metabolism, cell differentiation, tumor and ageing.There are various of research areas in our Department including "Tumor molecular cell biology and pre-clinical application study", "Study of atherosclerosis related genes", "Molecular mechanism of cardiovascular disease", "Research about DNA damage and repair in aging and cancer mechanism", "Apoptosis and proliferation of tumor cells", "Study of biological sensor technology, protein biological engineering, genetic diagnosis and tumor biochemical detection method ", "Genetic diagnosis and treatment". In recent 5 years, the Department have received a number of research grants supported by National Natural Science Foundation, the Ministry of Education Program for New Century Excellent TalentsFund,Doctoral Scientific Fund Project of the Ministry of Education, Scientific Research Starting Foundation for Returned Overseas Scholars, CMB Fund, National Research Project, "973" Project, Key and general Scientific Research Fund of Sichuan Province, the International Cooperation Fund, School Youth Science Foundation, Academy Youth Science Foundation and other funds.
