Background

Prof. Liureceived his PhD degree of Biomedical Engineering from Chongqing University in 1997. He engaged in postdoctoral research in West China Medical University (1997-1999). Then he went on postdoctoral research at the French National Center for Scientific Research and Université de Nancy 1 (2001-2002). In 2004, he was promoted to be a professor and doctoral supervisor. Prof. Liu served as the deputy dean in School of Medicine of Tibet University, and the director of Teaching Evaluation and Quality Supervision Office in Sichuan University. Now he is the academic leader of biomedical engineering and the director of the Committee of Professors in West China School of Basic Medical Science & Forensic Medicine, Sichuan University.

His research interest is focused on the pathogenesis of some major human diseases including malignant tumors, cardiovascular diseases, and osteoporosis. His research goal is aimed to discover relevant drug targets by exploring the physical/chemical-biological signal coupling cascade relationship and the signal transduction mechanisms. Background

Prof. Xiaoheng Liu, graduated from Chongqing University in 1997 with a PhD, majoring in biomedical engineering. From 1997 to 1999, he was engaged in postdoctoral research in West China Medical University, and then worked on the teaching and research of biomedical engineering. From 2001 to 2002, he studied at the French National Scientific Research Centre as a visiting scholar. In 2004, he was promoted to be a professor, and now he is the academic leader of biomedical engineering and the chair of the Academic Committee in West China school of basic medical science & forensic medicine, Sichuan University.

Prof. Liu always focuses on the research of cell biomechanics and rheology, and have did a lot of innovative works on endothelial cell adhesion, migration, skeletal remodeling and tumor cell metastasis. In recent years, he has presided 9 projects from the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) and 3 projects from provincial and ministerial-level funds. Meanwhile, he completed 9 cooperative research projects, including key projects and general projects of the NSFC, “863” and “973” projects of the Ministry of Science and Technology. He has published more than 130 papers, including about 55 SCI papers and 77 Chinese core journal papers. Additionally, Prof. Liu obtained 3 national invention patents and 1 third prize for scientific and technological progress. He was selected as academic and technical leaders of Sichuan Provincial Department of Health, Academic leaders of Sichuan Outstanding Youth, New Century Outstanding Talents of The Ministry of Education, and Outstanding experts with prominent contributions.

Prof. Liu paid much attention to the combination of innovation and practicality of scientific research. He firstly proposed the compound drop model and the coupling model of cell and blood flow interaction to describe the rheological characteristics of cells. The theory attracted much attention from international colleagues and make a great influence in the field of biomedical engineering. Recently, his team keeps working on cell and tissue biomechanics, tumor cell migration and invasion, tissue and cell regeneration, artificial organs, biomedical signal detection, which have important theoretical significance and potential application prospects. Moreover, his lab has established good cooperative relationships with international counterparts (e.g. the United States, France and the United Kingdom) and domestic counterparts (e.g. Institute of Mechanics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Chongqing University and Wuhan University).
